The library offers classic storytimes, passive reading challenges, and hands-on experiential programs for patrons ranging from babies to sixth grade, along with their adults. Programs are curated with age-appropriate developmental goals in mind. Engagement with literacy, community interests, popular culture, and library fun are key principles in children and youth programming.
Staff work closely with other local organizations that serve children to ensure a full range of programming is available to library patrons and that new patrons are welcomed. Programming for babies and children includes both basic literacy principles and evolving trends. The library fosters a learning culture in which staff continuously grow and bring that growth to the programs offered to the community.
Baby and child programs have suggested appropriate ages for most activities. The content for most programs is tailored to typical developmental stages. Children aged 5 and under should always have their caregiver with them at the library and during library programs.
Similar to adult library programming, youth library programs fall into two main categories: recurring and special. Recurring programs include Babytime, Music & Movement, and Storytime. Special programs might include STEAM workshops, arts and crafts projects, or author appearances.
Library staff share songs and props in this high-energy program designed for ages 0-6 and their caregivers. M&M promotes brain and body development with an emphasis on language acquisition and literacy readiness. At the main library, M&M is offered three times a week: Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 9:30 am, prior to the library opening at 10:00 am.

Library storytime is a time-honored tradition in public libraries. Storytime is offered at both the main and the branch library weekly. Books and activities are typically most appropriate for kids ages 3-6 years. Library staff are trained to adjust and flex in the moment providing a positive environment for most children and their involved caregivers. Storytime happens twice weekly at the main library on Thursdays at 10:30am and Saturdays at 10:15am, and once weekly at the White Rock branch on Wednesdays at 10:15am
