The library offers a robust and diverse selection of free adult programs, curated to provide high-value opportunities to the community. To ensure these programs remain relevant and engaging, staff continuously assess attendance and gather feedback, allowing us to adapt to evolving community interests, needs, and cultural and literary trends. Key programming themes include storytelling, events that highlight library resources and collections, observances of recognized heritage months, and celebrations of regional history, culture, and art.
Open to all members of the public, adult programs are designed to cater to the interests and needs of mature audiences. However, many of these programs may also appeal to teens and high school students.
Adult library programs fall into two main categories: single, standalone offering and ongoing series. Standalone programs include speaker events and workshops, while ongoing series feature recurring gatherings, such as monthly meetups focused on reading and writing, crafting, gaming, and other popular topics.
Every 3rd Wednesday of the month, come to the library for the best kind of book club.
How it works: Arrive early and settle into a cozy seat. At 6:30, we go silent. Enjoy reading! At 7:30, we welcome quiet conversation.
Share you favorite books, discuss what you're reading now, and trade recommendations with fellow readers. The Silent Book Club doesn't require commitment to a particular title, nor does it require you to host--come to the library and share!

Every Thursday, a group of knitters comes together at White Rock Branch Library, from 6:00 to 7:30pm, to enjoy an evening together. Bring your knitting or crochet projects, share patterns and inspiration, or learn new techniques and styles in the group.

Seasonally, the library convenes a new campaign of adventure and challenge. Each campaign is run by our Dungeon Master to help introduce new people to this fantasy tabletop game. Whether you have been playing for decades or are looking to learn from scratch, you will find support and guidance from this Dungeon Master to build your character's story arc. As there are limited spaces at the table, registration is required in advance. See our library's calendar for the next available series.
The Los Alamos Public Library plays host to the conversation classes produced by the UNM-LA Adult Learning Center. Los Alamos County Social Services Division is offering convenient evening hours at both the White Rock Branch Library and Mesa Public Library to better assist people that may not be able to meet during regular business hours. Community members who need assistance with housing services, utility payments, food instability, or connections to other resources in the county are encouraged to stop by for a one-on-one meeting to learn how Social Services may be able to help. No appointment is necessary.
