Programs + Events

Learn about the variety of programs at the Los Alamos Public Library.

In addition to the programs in our library event calendar, the library produces challenges and activities throughout the year. These programs are often self-paced, and some even offer incentives! Explore everything you can do with the library:

Challenges + Activities

The library offers a variety of self-paced programs, both seasonal and ongoing, that participants can complete independently. Some of these challenges include exciting incentives such as prizes and drawings.

Our challenges and activities include the annual Summer Reading Challenge for all ages, interactive book display activities and prompts, "I Spy" displays, themed challenges, the Newcomers Adventure, library scavenger hunts, and youth reading programs like Cover2Cover and 1000 Books Before Kindergarten.

Many of the challenges are tracked through Beanstack, an online reading platform, where library users can explore current challenges and sign up anytime.

Presenters: Submit a Proposal

Library programs may be developed and presented by staff or by paid presenters working with the library. In making decisions about programs, topics, speakers, and presenters the library considers:

  • Alignment with strategic plans and goals
  • Community needs and interests
  • Budget and cost
  • Presenter background/qualifications
  • Staff time required
  • Potential to promote and encourage use of library collections and resources.

Library sponsored programs and events are open to the public and are free of charge.
