Art on display, plus live art demonstration and hands-on workshop at White Rock Branch Library
Los Alamos, New Mexico—White Rock Branch Library is hosting the Pastel Society of New Mexico’s art exhibit from April 28 to May 26, 2026. As a special event during this show, the PSNM’s award-winning artist, Sarah Blumenschein, will be at the branch library on Saturday, May 2, 2026 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for a live art demonstration and hands-on workshop.
The Pastel Society of New Mexico brings their show to the White Rock Branch Library after a successful visit to Los Alamos’ Mesa Public Library in November of 2025. The artists are sharing a second show and live art demonstration to offer a second opportunity for the community to take part in the hands-on, live demonstration from one of their most award-winning artists, Sarah Blumenschein.
Blumenschein excels in the pastel medium as it allows her the opportunity to explore the strong sense of light and depth of color. Many of her pieces display her mastery in creating the illusion of three dimensions on the page.
During the Saturday, May 2 live demonstration at White Rock Branch Library, Blumenschein will work on an unfinished piece while describing her technique. Participants in the event will be able to see up close how the medium can be manipulated and take part in creating their own attempts in hands-on practice. All the paper and pastels to participate in this hands-on portion of the event will be available for anyone who arrives at the workshop.
Visitors to White Rock Branch Library can view the art from Blumenschein, Los Alamos’ own Rachel Pearson, and many more artists. The display will remain in the library until May 26.
All programs at the library are free and open to the public. Visit LosAlamosLibrary.org or visit us in person to find more details on all our programs like the monthly Tabletop Game Day, Writer’s Group, or our special teen programs.
