October’s Library Board meeting featured a presentation by Library Manager Gwen Kalavaza on inclusivity efforts at the library. These efforts build on principles developed by the American Library Association: the Library Bill of Rights and the Freedom to Read Statement. At Los Alamos Public Libraries everyone is welcome, regardless of background, identity, or ability and staff work to ensure equitable access to resources, services and opportunities, as well as the representation of diverse voices in collections, services, and programming. You can contact the Library Board if you have feedback on how the library can welcome and serve all of our community.

In the Manager’s Report, the board was notified that both library branches will be closed on Friday November 7 for staff development workshops. We encourage the community to make note of this, and remember that you can schedule your library holds to be placed in the outdoor lockers for pick up; these can be accessed 24/7.

The Library Board is pleased to welcome two new members, Jason Chappel (who will also be taking on the role of Vice Chair) and Ryan Parker. We would also like to thank our two outgoing members, Frances Knudson and Sarah Work, for their valuable contributions to the board.

The next Library Board meeting will be November 3, 2025 at the Municipal Building.  Please email the Library Board at lb@lacnm.us if you have questions or suggestions. This email will reach all board members: Beth Stelle (Chair), Jason Chappel (Vice Chair), Michele Altherr, Ryan Parker, and Brian Reardon.
